Scoping reports
Before HRIS develops new patient information, we had to prove that it is needed. To decide if a new leaflet or factsheet will be useful we may carry out a scoping report. This involves desk based research, consultation with stakeholders and searching for existing or similar patient information.
- In 2009, we conducted a scoping exercise to establish whether there is a need for health rights information aimed at carers.

User-testing reports
HRIS also carry out or commission user-testing to find out if newly developed information meets the needs of the target audience. Their views can then help us redraft the information to make it more appropriate.
- In 2010, HRIS commissioned Carole Millar Research to user-test patient information about resuscitation and the word palliative. This was done as part of the development of NHSScotland DNACPR policy. You can get a copy of the report here.
