Religious male circumcision

Some parents' religion or belief means they will want their male child to be circumcised as soon as possible after birth. In the NHS in Scotland, it is possible for male circumcision to be done for religious reasons as soon as doctors feel it is clinically safe to do so.

We have worked in collaboration with the Scottish Government Health Directorates to produce an information leaflet for parents called 'Circumcision and your child'. This describes how religious male circumcision is arranged.

The religious male circumcision leaflet is available from our website as a PDF file, or you can view it on the Scottish Government's website as text only.
