The Charter of Patient Rights and Responsibilities
We have continued our work with the Scottish Government to develop the Charter of Patient Rights and Responsibilities. The Charter is a requirement of the Patient Rights (Scotland) Act 2011 and will be launched by 1 October 2012.
The Scottish Government have carried out an internal consultation on the draft and key stakeholders have also provided input. The Plain Language Commission have completed a plain language check of the draft.
As well as working on the content of the Charter itself, we have produced sample supporting information for patients and members of the public in the form of a leaflet and factsheet. This information will be user-tested along with the draft Charter.
We have appointed Carole Millar Research to user-test the draft Charter and sample supporting information. Members of the public, patients, NHS staff and voluntary sector organisations will be involved in this. User-testing will begin in December 2011 and will be completed by the end of February 2012.
