The Charter of Patient Rights and Responsibilities

We have continued to work with the Scottish Government on the development of The Charter of Patient Rights and Responsibilities. The Charter is a requirement of the Patient Rights (Scotland) Act 2011 and will be launched by 1 October 2012.

Between December 2011 and February 2012 the draft Charter and some sample supporting information have been user-tested by Carole Millar Research. The user-testing has involved members of the public, patients, NHS staff and voluntary organisations who have participated in focus groups, small group interviews and one-to-one interviews.

All focus groups and interviews are now complete and Carole Millar Research are currently working on the final report. HRIS will work with the Scottish Government to incorporate the feedback from the user-testing into the Charter. The Scottish Government will then carry out a formal public consultation on the draft Charter between 2 April 2012 and 30 June 2012.
